Shipping Information n' Stuff
No
doubt about it, shipping is a dollar killer when you are mail ordering stuff.
We here at the Track Shack try to minimize this cost and at the same time get
you your 8-track in one piece. Fortunately, 8-tracks are pretty rugged pieces
of plastic, and can handle being shipped no problem. You might see your tapes/repair supplies shipped in a cereal box or some other type of box. We're just trying to recycle as much as we can!
When sending us tapes for repair/tune-up or selling us tapes, usually the cheapest way to send them is usually Media Mail! Don't let the folks at the post office tell you you can't. Don't let them make you ship it Ground Advantage or Priority! Both of these can cost sometimes 3-4 times as much as Media Mail.
When
ordering, please remember that buying more tapes actually decreases your overall
cost per tape when shipping is figured in. So, go ahead and try a tape that
you would not normally pay 3 bucks for!! To me, half the fun of 8-tracking is
trying out some new kinds of music at a very low cost.
Repair supplies can not be shipped media mail. If you're purchasing tapes and supplies, the order can't be shipped media mail. The post office has the right to open up any packages marked media mail to verify that the contents is indeed media. If not, they can charge you the additional shipping costs to receive the package.
If sending a player(s) in for repair, be sure that they are well wrapped. You can see some examples here. For car players, if your player has knobs, leave them on as this will help to keep the shafts from being broken/damaged. Please do NOT use packing peanuts! These can get into your machine and cause damage. They can also become staticky and cause issues with your player beyond what you're sending it in for. They are a MESS and a pain to deal with! There may be an additional cost if we have to dispose of them. You want to make sure there is plenty of protection around your player. Think of your player as an uncooked egg! If it were to be dropped, etc, would it survive? Please be sure to include your contact info and any issues that your player is having.
All US packages will have delivery confirmation included in the s/h charges. This is for your benefit as well as ours. Insurance is optional. We can't be responsible for packages that are lost, stolen or damaged in shipping unless the package is insured. It is highly recommended on larger package that might tend to get damaged in shipping. If your package is insured and something like this happens, we will be more than happy to work with you and the post office to rectify the situation. On international orders, there is tracking on First Class International, but once it leaves the States, can not be tracked further. The only packages that can be tracked fully are Global Express, Priority Express International and Priority International.
Most packages sent media mail should arrive within 5-7 days but could take up to 12 days. Single tapes are sent out by ground advantage mail and should take approx. 2-3 days to arrive. It can be more due to holidays. International orders will vary. The Post Office has discontinued "surface" mailing. Now packages can only be shipped via 1st Class International, Priority (includes flat rate boxes), Express Int'l, and Global Express. Our mailing address is:
